Ban on North's Websites Questioned
A bipartisan group of 114 lawmakers submitted a bill Sunday that would make it legal for South Koreans to visit North Korean Internet sites. Now South Koreans must get permission from the Unification Ministry before accessing the North's sites.

"Due to the nature of the Internet, it is difficult to differentiate sites that are operated by the North, and in reality, thousands of people already log on to them," said Representative Cho Woong-gyu, who spoke at the National Assembly on behalf of the group.

Civic groups have been asking for such a bill, saying that the law fails to reflect reality. But the bill is expected to be controversial, as opponents warn that people may try to circulate worldwide provocative propaganda and North Korean ideology. (Ahn Yong-kyun, agon@chosun.com )
