The Third Imjin River Unification Kite Flying Festival will take place at Imjin-gak in Paju City on Sunday. Members of the Korean Folk Kite Preservation Organization will demonstrate kite aerobatics, large kites, kite fights, and new creative kite designs.
Gracing the skies of Imjingak will be a 10 x 16 meter kite, Bonghwangyeon, a cylinder-shaped kite with a 5-meter diameter, and a parachute-like kite 150 meters long as well as others.
Various folk games will take place on the day as well as performances by intangible cultural assets of Gyeonggi Province. A special stall will sell crafts made of straw and grass and special agricultural products native to Paju.
Volunteer workers will hold an open market and use the raised money to buy anti-tuberculosis drugs to send to North Korea. The first 200 contestants of the high-flying kite competition will receive traditional Gaori kites and reels.
Applications for the kite competition can be made in advance or on the day of the festival.
