Preparations for Power Transfer Begin

President-elect Roh Moohyun began preparations to take over the nation's top office on Friday after the National Election Commission officially declared him the winner of Korea's 16th Presidential Election. On Monday, Roh will be meeting with President Kim Dae-jung to discuss the administration transfer, and receive a briefing from the Minister of Government and Home Affairs Lee Keun-sik regarding government support of the presidency transition committee.

Earlier, Roh appointed Representative Shin Geh-ryoon of the Millennium Democratic Party as his chief secretary, and Party Spokesman Lee Nak-yon as president-elect spokesman. He is expected to appoint the head of the transition committee some time next week, and set up the committee in early January.

But until his inauguration on February 25, Roh will refrain from taking an active role in state affairs, rather focus on learning key issues.
