On the eve of the 16th presidential election, the major presidential nominees are making their last-ditch sprints in the capital Seoul and other hotly contested areas, Wednesday. After touring Seoul's Namdaemun, Taehak-ro and other areas late into the night on Tuesday, the Grand National Party's Lee Hoi-chang is reaching out to voters in the capital, promising to usher in an era of peace and harmony while rooting out corruption.
Lee, who lost the 1997 presidential race to President Kim Dae-jung, plans to tour the streets of Seoul late into the night.
On the other hand, the Millennium Democratic Party's Roh Moo-hyun plans to make a brief trip to his hometown city of Busan, before zeroing in on the capital as he strives to win over the undecided. Roh's key message is that he is the man to unify the nation and break away from politics as usual. Joining him on the final stretch of his stumping rallies is Chung Mong-joon, a major contender who dropped out after forging merged campaigns with Roh.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Labor Party's Kwon Young-ghil held a press conference this Wednesday morning at his party headquarters in Seoul and urged voters to join him as he hopes to create a happy society.
