Election Results to Be Available Sooner This Year

For this year's presidential election, voters will find out who their new head of state will be just hours after they cast their ballots. With the introduction of the electronic vote counting machine, the election results will be available much sooner than in previous years, about four hours after polling stations close at 6:00pm.

First adopted for the June local elections this year, the electronic devices can count 13,000 votes per hour by sorting out the ballots according to the numbers given to each candidate. In the past, occasional errors were made with a manual count that lasted all night long, however the introduction of the electronic vote counting machine will help eliminate that problem.

The counted votes will be tallied by the National Election Commission and relayed live by broadcasters. A total of 950 machines will be installed at some 240 counting venues nationwide on the day of the election.
