Roh Selected as 'Single Candidate'
The campaign camps for the Millennium Democratic Party and the National Alliance 21 announced Sunday night that Roh Mu-hyun has been confirmed as the single candidate for the two parties as he was found to have a better chance to win against Grand National Party presidential hopeful Lee Hoi-chang. A survey conducted by R&R showed Roh leading Chung Mong-joon by 46.8% to 42.2%, another survey done by World Research was 38.8% to 37.0% in favor of Roh, but was not accepted as viable as Lee's popularity was below a three-day average of 30.4%.

After the announcement, Roh held a news conference and said appreciated Chung for his support. Chung also held a news conference and congratulated Roh and added that he would help him to win the presidential election. He said he would meet Roh, Monday to discuss campaign management.
