Wonhyo, who lived between 617-686AD, is recognized for having been one of the greatest thinkers of Korean Buddhism. Early next year the works of this prolific author are to be published in English translation, in a five volume series titled The Complete Works of Wonhyo, the result of project by the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Dongguk University in Seoul.
Fifteen scholars from universities in Korea, the United States, and Japan participated in the translation project. Calling themselves the International Association of Wonhyo Studies, translators began in 1997 and are now in the final proofreading stages. All twenty two existent writings by Wonhyo have been translated.
A two day seminar will be held at Dongguk University November 12-13 titled ¡°What Wonhyo¡¯s Works in English mean for the Global Village and Problems in Translation.¡±
