Korea National Theater Hosts 'Blue Saigon'

The musical "Blue Saigon" will close down the late summer at the Korean National Theater. The award-winning musical set around the Vietnam War has been revamped for the third production after the 1996 premier, reserving the Broadway-style spectacular and focusing on Korean sentiment and sorrow from the war.

The more-serious version of the hit musical emphasizes music rather than being dance-oriented, with addition of some ten new songs and over 20 rearranged numbers. Co-produced by theater company 'People in Service,' production management '210' and the Korean National Theater, the tragic story of life and love of Sergeant Kim reminds Korean people of the painful part of modern history.

Vietnam War veteran Kim is suffering from defoliant-related side effects is visited by his son, who Kim had with a Vietnamese woman Huen. Lee Jae-hwon is cast for the role of Kim, and Kang Hyo-seong and Chu Jeong-hwa will take turns as Huen. The story written by Kim Jeong-suk and music composed by Kwon Ho-seong tells of the reality of war.

The shows are staged at 8:00pm on Tuesdays to Saturday, and 6:00pm on Sundays until September 29. Friday and Saturday matinees are at 4:00pm, and Sunday matinees are at 2:00pm.
