GNP Demands Investigation into 'Distorted' Textbook

The Grand National Party decided to organize a special committee to investigate the background of history textbooks that unilaterally praise the government without pointing out its mistakes. The majority opposition party called on the administration to correct the textbooks and reprimand those responsible for the originals.

Kim Jung-sook, a GNP Supreme Council member, said the textbooks were written using Marxist theory and read as if they were ordered by North Korea. Kim said former deputy prime minister Han Wan-sang had selected the authors of the books, and called for the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development to identify them.

Millennium Democratic Party Spokesman Lee Nak-yon said history textbooks should be written from a neutral viewpoint with precision and balance, and so they should be reviewed in detail, as the assessment of previous governments must reflect this.
