Netizens nationwide are continuing to protest about the imminent demise of Internet music file sharing site 'Soribada' with some threatening a boycott of CD albums, Sunday.
However, the Recording Industry Association of Korea, which got the court injunction, said it was justified in its action as album sales had decreased because of sites like Soribada with its free downloads of mp3 files, and decided to force the site closed within next week. According to the decision of the court of justice, Soribada will be immediately shut down if the RIAK pays a deposit of W200 million and applies for confiscation and custody of the three server computers used to provide services.
Hundreds of messages are posted each day on web boards of main portal sites and the Soribada host site, Freemuse (antisori.wo.to), suggesting a 13-day album boycott and petition opposing the shut down of Soribada. One netizen on Freemuse¡¯s site said the recession in the domestic music market was not because of Soribada, but because of music companies that release albums based on looks instead of talent. He called for a boycott of companies that are blaming Soribada.
In a survey conducted by portal site Daum on June 13, 46.5% of 25,934 respondents to a questionnaire replied more sites would start up after Soribada is shut down.
