Ahn Jung-hwan, Park Ji-sung, Yu Sang-cheol, Hong Myeong-bo and Lee Woon-jae were included in the Asian Best Eleven picked by the 2002 FIFA official MasterCard's online poll at www.mastercard.com/fifaworldcup out of 50 nominees selected on June 28 by the FIFA Technical Committee. Domestic netizens participating in the 1.3million people poll, netizens are thought to have influenced powerfully.
Others on the list are two cup winning Brazilian players, Roberto Carlos and Cafu, Hidetoshi Nakata from Japan, Michael Ballack of Germany and David Beckham and Sol Campbell from England.
In related news, US Sports Illustrated picked Yu as one of the eleven "best of the best" Asian players, while Hong was placed fourth (with 4.58%) in football rankings at www.footballranking.com, where soccer fans worldwide decide rankings in a poll.
In the MasterCard poll with 900,000 netizens participating as of July 4, Beckham (7.14%) was placed at the top, followed by Figo (Portugal) with 6.95%, and Zidane (France) with 5.19%.
