Korea-Italy Match Rated Best Domestically
Some 45% of Koreans surveyed by market researcher Insight Research on June 30 considered the most thrilling World Cup soccer match was the one Team Korea played against Italy, it was reported Tuesday. IR conducted the survey via telephone on 710 citizens aged between 13 to 59 in seven cities, nationwide. The match quarterfinals match against Spain came next with 25%, followed by the semifinal with Germany at 14%.

The top strikers selected were Ahn Jung-hwan, Park Ji-sung, Hwang Sun-hong, and Seol Ki-hyeon, and defenders Hong Myung-bo, Kim Tae-young, Choi Jin-cheul, Song Chong-guk, and Kim Nam-il. The best goal ceremony picked was Ahn kissing his ring followed by the same by Hwang and Song saying a prayer.

When asked about the best goal of the 2002 World Cup, 22% of respondents answered Park Ji-sungĄ¯s against Portugal, while the favorites three players were Ahn (12%), Hong (11%) and Park (9%).

About 71% of respondents wore red and 55% answered they had been on the streets cheering. Especially, 69% said the World Cup was the best once in a lifetime event they enjoyed. However, those who will go to the professional K-League matches stood at 30%, which showed the passion for soccer shown in the World Cup may not be shared with the league.
