"I could lead Team Korea again two years later," said national coach Guus Hiddink at a press conference at Incheon International Airport Tuesday after returning from a visit to Yokahama to watch the World Cup final, suggesting he would resign from the national team¡¯s head coach post. Hiddink said he wished to meet new challenges on the pitch everyday, and Team Korea does not have such a goal at present. However, the head coach said that he would like to continue to help Korean soccer as an advisor, even if he leaves for a foreign club. Hiddink hinted that he would like to stay in touch with the team as he proposed to clubs that contacted him to guarantee he could help Korean soccer as a part of any contract.
As his future is the hottest subject in the nation, Hiddink repeated that he would like to be in a competitive environment such as the Champions League. Regarding a BBC report that he had been offered the head coach position at PSV Eindhoven, he said that nothing had been finalized, and he had been offered the position before the World Cup.
Hiddink emphasized that the expansion of the professional K-League is instrumental for continuing the development of Korean football, advising professional clubs to train players in their late teens and to attract more spectators to the field. The Dutch head coach plans to return to his native land in a week after attending a series of celebrations for his achievements in the World Cup. Hiddink closed the conference by thanking the Korean people for their support and enthusiasm.
