After guiding Korea's national soccer team to new heights, head coach Guus Hiddink has undoubtedly become one of the most sought-after men in world football and according to a BBC report will not be staying on with the national team as many had hoped. The BBC said Hiddink, who's been mum about his future plans during the World Cup, saying he wanted to focus on the tournament, has apparently decided to take over PSV Eindhoven, a club team in his native country of Holland.
The BBC report said the mastermind who took Team Korea to a surprise appearance in the semi-finals of soccer's biggest event has accepted a two-year offer by PSV president Harry van Raaij. In the meantime, he's expected to stay in Korea, his adopted country, until Friday to tie up loose ends and attend post-World Cup functions before signing a new contract with the club.
The Dutch-born coach has been hailed by Koreans as a national hero after guiding a country that had never won a World Cup match prior to this tournament to its first victory, the second round and then onto the semi-finals. Such achievements have prompted Koreans to erect statues and name streets in his honor, while presenting him an honorary citizenship.
