World Cup Festival Opens Tuesday
A festival for the people titled "Daehan-Minguk" will be held Tuesday in Gwanghwamun, Seoul to celebrate the successful co-hosting of the 2002 World Cup and the national team's miraculous advance into the semi-finals. The Korea World Cup Organizing Committee and the Korea Football Association will host the event, which starts at 6:30pm.

The national team will ride in a motorcade from the COEX building in Gwanghwamun to City Hall to than the people for their support.

Head coach Guus Hiddink will be awarded a medal for sports achievement, "Cheongryong" and an honorary citizenship card, while the soccer players will receive the "Tiger" medal.

The festival will include films on the bidding procedure for co-hosting the World Cup, the preparations, final draw, and edited highlights of Team Korea's journey to the semifinals. Artists performing include Kim Deok-su, the Choi Jeong-ja Dance Company, Koreana, Lee Sunny and BoA. The two-hour and 20-minute festival will end with a mammoth fireworks display.

KOWOC advises citizens participating in the festival to use mass transportation as it plans to partially restrict traffic in the Gwanghwamun area. Busan, Daejeon and Gwangju will also hold celebrations.
