Major Decrease in Crime Seen during World Cup
During the World Cup games in June, the number of crimes committed decreased 11.6% from the previous month and on the days when Korea played, the percentage fell 30.8%.

The National Policy Agency said Sunday, the total number of crimes for the month was 36,092. Compared to May, the greatest decrease was in drug related offences (42.9%), followed by theft (23.6%), murder (20.0%), fire (11.3%), rape (15.0%), robbery (11.7%) and violence (2.7%).

The match Korea played against Spain had the highest decrease in crimes at 56.7%, followed by matches against Turkey (37.1%), Italy (34.6%), Poland (28.6%), the US (22.5%) and Portugal (16.4%).

Police said the decrease was because the whole nation was focused on the football tournament. (Li Dong-hyuk, dong@chosun.com )
