"Every time the giant national flag (60mX40m) appears on the stand, my heart overflows with joy with the thought I made it," said 36 year-old president of Dongwoo Flag Lee Hak-jae. Lee melts into tears whenever he sees the stand covered with the giant flag. "I was not quite sure if I could get it made in April when the Red Devils asked me to produce the world's biggest national flag for cheering use. Attracted by the pure passion of the Red Devils, however, I finally decided to make it," said Lee.
He used an airfield as a studio to make the giant flag that weighs 1.5tons and needs at least a 2.5ton truck to move the flag. Using functional textiles and waterproof fabric, it cost nearly W10million in manufacturing costs alone.
"It does not soak up spilled hot coffee," said Lee, adding that he sweated a lot during the manufacture, as the waterproof fabric does not soak dyes readily. National flags being made of cheap fabrics motivated the former yarn recycling business owner to begin manufacturing the national flag with high-end fabrics three years ago.
