Ahn Reconsiders Perugia's Proposal
After the reckless remarks of Perugia¡¯s president Luciano Gaucci, Ahn Jeong-hwan revealed through his agent that he didn't want to discuss anything with a club that slurs a player's character let alone fails to congratulate him for scoring a goal, but attitudes have changed after Perugia sent a document to the Busan Icons, on June 24, saying it wanted to completely transfer Ahn for US$1.6 million.

Ahn Jeong-hwan's agent, E-player said Thursday that if Perugia proposes an exceptional deal, it will reconsider, withdrawing his firm position on the matter. An exceptional proposal means a tremendous raise or giving Ahn a portion of the contract fee for his transfer.

Another member of E-player said, Luciano Gaucci said things beyond common sense but his son, Alessandro Gaucci cancelled his fathers remarks and apologized so Ahn doesn't need to worry about it any more.

The Italian media also reported Perugia plans to claim Ahn and then sell or lease him to England or Spain's pro-league clubs at the start of the 2002-2003 season. In addition, England's daily The Guardian selected Ahn as the player whose worth has increased the most through the World Cup.

The Guardian received advice from sports agent Jerome Randerson and selected 12 players who became more ¡®valuable¡¯ during the World Cup. Among them, Ahn Jeong-hwan went from 500,000 pounds to 5-6 million pounds; more than 10 times.

The Guardian added, "Ahn Jeong-hwan is the only player who rose more than 10 times. Ahn's golden goal in the match with Italy, and Perugia president Luciano Gaucci's reckless remarks were the talk of the games." (Bang Sung-hoon, sungbang@chosun.com )
