A stream of false rumors are being spread on the Internet following the national team qualifying for a semifinal berth against Germany on Tuesday. One such was the changing of the venue of the final should Korea qualify, from Yokohama to Seoul, reasoning that FIFA places the host only in their own country.
The Korea Football Association seeing a flood phone inquiries immediately stated the rumor was groundless, but with the fast spread of the rumor, FIFA President Joseph Sepp Blatter steeped in to reinforce the KFA statement.
Another rumor reported by the Japanese Sankei Sports Daily, Monday, said that the vice president of Italian Football Association faxed the KFA to propose a rematch in a third nation after losing to Korea as did the boss of the Spanish League. This is also groundless, with Song Ki-ryong a vice-director at KFA said there was not a single phone call or fax from Italy.
The reason the rumor spread so fast was because Italian clubs AC Milan and Juventus lost in friendlies in 1996 and after their return to Italy faxed proposals for rematches in other countries.
