The government announced Sunday that it will not make June 25, the day of Korea's World Cup semifinal match with Germany, a temporary holiday. Instead it will look into making the day after the final match on June 30; July 1; a temporary holiday if the Korean team wins its semifinal game.
After studying proposals from various circles to make June 25 a holiday, the administration decided not to, considering the facts that there were already seven legal holidays in June including Memorial Day and regional elections, and an additional one could hurt export and trade sectors of businesses.
The government decided that administrative organizations and government offices will run as usual, while schools and private companies could make their own decisions.
However, one high-level official said if the national team makes it to the finals, then the government will consider making July 1 a "National Festival Day." Other countries such as England mostly take the next day off after important games played on Sunday.
