Housing Project Named After Hiddink
Jeju Province Governor Woo Geun-min said Friday that following Korea¡¯s entry into the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals he proposed to team coach Guus Hiddink through Lee Yeon-taik, chairman of the Korea Sports Council to name a residential area in a housing estate in Seogwipo City after him and he accepted. The housing estate in Seogwipo is one of seven industry projects in Jeju Free International City. Some W600 billion will be spent on 8,600 pyong of land, which will be equipped with recreational facilities such as a golf course, medical and commercial facilities and a sports center. The plans also include housing facilities such as condominiums and country-style houses.

Namjeju-gun, which instituted a project comemmorating Piet Hamel, the first Dutchman to come to Korea, on Yongmeo-ri Beach, will erect a statue of coach Hiddink in commemoration of the 350th anniversary of Hamel's landing on Jeju next year. (Jang Seung-hong, shjang@chosun.com )
