England Breeze Past Denmark 3:0
With a returned to form David Beckham as captain, England swept past Denmark into the quarterfinals 3:0, after a first half scoring spurt. Rio Ferdinand scored his first goal of the tournament, after just five minutes followed by Michael Owen and Emile Heskey.

Ferdinand's goal game from a Beckham corner, which he headed into Danish keeper Thomas Sorenson who bundled the ball over his own line before pushing it out for the mid fielder to volley home to make sure.

In the 22nd minute England were two up when Owen spun to finish off a three-man move with a shot to Sorenson's left; his first goal in the tournament. Heskey made it three in the 44th minute, with a thundering shot from outside the area after a run by Beckham ended with a cross that split the defenders.

In the second half England continued to attack with Sorenson impressively tipping a wicked dipping shot from Beckham. Denmark tried in vain to penetrate the English defense, which was solid enough to force the Danes to attempt long-range shots; to no avail.

England now face the winner of the match between Brazil and Belgium on June 17. (Chris Price, chris@chosun.com )
