Germany Advances to Quarterfinals
It wasn't the prettiest match of the World Cup but Germany will take it just the same, winning 1-0 over Paraguay in Jeju Island, Korea, to be the first team to advance to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

In a lackluster match that saw both teams come out tentatively, Germany and Paraguay tried to gain the upper hand in possession rather than shoot the ball, seemingly waiting for the other team to commit a mistake.

It was more of the same in the second half, and just when it seemed like the game was headed for extra-time, Germany's Oliver Neuville scored on a half volley at the 88-minute mark that left the Paraguayans stunned.

Germany will next take on the winner of the US-Mexico match to be played on June 17. (Glen Choi, glen@chosun.com )
