Electricity Consumption Down During World Cup
Unlike past World Cup games where electricity consumption rose whenever Korea was playing, this year, electricity consumption decreased according to Jeon Jong-taek head of the Korea Power Exchange, Friday. Jeon said that during the Korea-Poland match on June 4 and the Korea-US game on June 10,the amount of electricity consumed decreased by 5.7% and 13.9%, respectively.

The reason the energy consumption decreased this year was because electricity used to operate offices and factories was lower.

As the World Cup fever gets hotter, companies are taking the afternoon off when Korea plays, explained Jeon, adding that reflecting on this trend, he expects energy consumption on the day of the Korea-Portugal match, to be 10% less than usual. (Kim Ki-hoon, khkim@chosun.com )
