Favorites Argentina Sent Packing
This year's World Cup has been full of surprises, and Wednesday's outcome between Sweden and Argentina was icing on the cake.

Argentina, the pre-tournament favorites, salvaged a tie with Sweden 1-1 when Hernan Crespo scored a goal in the dying minutes off a rebound of a penalty kick from Ariel Ortega. Sweden's Anders Svensson had earlier scored a goal in the 59th minute off a free kick to give his team the lead.

The Argentine players, knowing they needed nothing less than a win to advance, pressed in the waning minutes but could not muster any real good scoring chances, a testament to both Sweden's defense and Argentina's inability to score, something that plagued the team throughout the tournament.

The two to survive Group F, better known as the "Group of Death," were Sweden and England, who will take on a strong Senegalese team and Denmark, respectively, in the second round. (Glen Choi, glen@chosun.com )
