Germany waited until the second half to get things going but that was enough, scoring two unanswered goals to oust Cameroon from the World Cup with a 2-0 win.
After cooler heads prevailed in a match that saw eight yellow cards flashed for both teams, Germany got goals from Marco Bode, a substitute, and Miroslav Klose, which was his fifth of the tournament.
The Republic of Ireland, who beat Saudi Arabia the same day, will join Germany as the two teams to advance from Group E.
