Paraguay's Ambassador Cheers on National Team
Paraguayan Ambassador to Korea Luis Jimenes attended the Spain versus Paraguay game at Jeonju, Friday, the tenth time he has visited the city. Ambassador Jimenes always takes the train or bus on his visits to the southern city, carrying a big bag and with no attendants.

City officials say the ambassador's visits were exceptional, but Jimenes counters that true friendship starts with simple meetings. He asked them to treat him as an ordinary resident of Korea, without fanfare.

In March, the ambassador went to Jeonju Kijeon Women's College, whose members had organized a group of supporters for Paraguay and taught them cheering songs. His wife also gave the supporters a seven-meter national flag from Paraguay.

The ambassador arranged in person, lodgings for players and reporters and drove to Jeonju to watch the match with his two children. He saw the match with Paraguay's supporters, sporting a face painting of his country's national flag.

Ambassador Jimenes said he like Jeonju, as he had found the food delicious and the people friendly. He added, he will maintain cultural exchanges between Paraguay and the city. (Kim Chang-gon, cgkim@chosun.com )
