Continued Hot Weather Forecast for Games
World Cup hosting city Daegu suffering from sweltering heat for three consecutive days, marked a of high 35.4 degrees Celsius Friday, the highest this year, while cities in the capital region have shown high ozone concentrations since Wednesday.

The highest early June temperature in 15 years, Daegu has had continued hot weather, and Korea and USA players, who will face each other on June 10, will experience a not-so-comfortable game day as the mercury is expected to rise up to 33 degrees Celsius.

While the temperature normally peaks around 4:00pm on the peninsula, Daegu is known to keep the day's heat to the latter part of the day due to its geographical location, said the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), meaning the Korea-USA match will be held in the hottest time slot of the day.

Considering the heat retention nature of concrete, temperatures inside the stadium will be some two to three degrees higher than outside, which will elevate the effective temperature to over 35 degrees Celsius, aggravating the game day conditions.

The KMA forecast that the hot weather would be temporarily tempered by nationwide rain on Tuesday, but the mercury would maintain the 30 degrees level, for the rest of the games. (Choi Won-seok, ws-choi@chosun.com )
