In a foul-filled match at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on Thursday, France and Uruguay, both badly needing a win to keep their hopes of advancing to the finals alive, played to a scoreless tie, the first one in this year's World Cup games.
French fans were wringing their hands after Thierry Henry was sent off in the 25th minute, forcing the defending World Cup champions, who have not been very impressive thus far in the games, to play a man short for almost an hour.
Uruguay tried to take advantage of this by playing a more aggressive game, but the French were able to fend off the Uruguayans with their superior ball possession.
The nil-nil tie has upped the ante for the next game even more, as both France and Uruguay need two-goal victories in their games against Group A leaders Denmark and Senegal, respectively, to advance to the next round. Both games will be held on June 11.
