Denmark and Senegal battled to a 1:1 draw in Daegu, Thursday in a physically bruising game in which Sengalese midfielder Salif Diao was sent off after scoring the second half equalizer, which atoned for his giving away a penalty in the first half that gave the Danes the lead.
Senegal went behind in the 16th minute when Diao bundled over Jon Dahl Tomasson in the penalty area, after the Danish striker had received a throw-in pass. Tomasson converted from the spot himself.
The Africans looked dangerous on the attack and Denmark was unable to hold out against Sengal's onslaught. Diao made up for his first half blunder by equalizing seven minutes after the restart following a smooth counter attack, but after being cautioned ten minutes later, received his marching orders in the 35th minute for a harsh tackle on Rene Henriksen.
Both teams now have four points from two games with Denmark ahead on goal difference. The Danes meet France and Senegal, Uruguay in their final group matches. The World Cup holder will play against the South Americans later Thursday evening, with neither team having scored any points in their opening matches.
