In the second match of Group E, Germany and Ireland played to a hard-fought 1-1 tie on Wednesday in Ibaraki, Japan.
In the beginning, the German team looked to be well in control of the game with their patience and precision-passing. The cool-as-steel Germans got the first goal of the match early in the game as Miroslav Klose, who scored a hat trick in the team's first game blowout of Saudi Arabia, promptly headed in a nice lob from the side.
But the Irish, never one to take things lying down, showed their mettle, slowly but surely climbing back. They were rewarded late in the game as Robbie Keane scored a spectacular goal, in injury-time no less, to forge the 1-1 tie.
This was a match that didn't affect the Korean national team, whose devilishly ardent supporters were taking the day off after the Korean team's emotional win over Poland the day before. The Red Devils, however, did save enough energy to root for Portugal in its match against the United States, whom Korea plays next on June 10.
Germany still leads Group E with the draw and next takes on Cameroon. Ireland, who have tied twice now, next play Saudi Arabia.
