"I am thrilled to sing my country's national anthem at the World Cup," says Eastern European superstar Edira Goniak. Goniak, who will represent her country Poland, rehearsed the performance with the military band twice before her country faces World Cup co-host, Korea, in Busan Asiad Stadium.
While not widely known in the Asia region, Goniak was invited for her popularity at home, as the Korea World Cup Organizing Committee has the national anthems performed live by a native singer. KOWOC officials said that the Polish star gladly accepted the offer to sing the national anthem, saying she hopes the match would serve as an opportunity for the two countries to come closer.
