The Gyonggi Province police from Gwangmyeong issued a warrant for the arrest of N Travel Agency representative Choi, for buying 560 World Cup tickets, then selling them to Bangladeshi people who wanted to enter the country to illegally get a job.
According to police officers, Choi is suspected of selling World Cup tickets last March for US$5,000 dollars each to people from Bangladesh who wanted to get a job in Korea. He worked with a Bangladeshi national identified as Abul Kasim at his travel agency office in Bucheon City. Police said Choi forged 140 application forms for purchasing World Cup tickets and bought 560 tickets at the Bucheon Gogang-dong branch of the Housing and Commercial Bank, a ticket agency. Abul Kasim recruited applicants in Bangladesh.
After the investigation, Choi was found to have taken advantage of the fact that foreigners can stay in the country for 30 days with no visa if they have a World Cup ticket. Police suspect that 290 more Bangladeshis other than the 560 that Choi recruited entered the country by purchasing World Cup tickets through illegal organizations and have requested immigration ejection measures from the Immigrations Department of the Ministry of Justice.
