Top Groups' Marketing Activities for WC Heat up
With the official opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup due Friday, Korean business groups have been engaged in a heated competition to enhance their brand recognition using the world's top national soccer teams.

The French team, with noted players such as Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry, will be wearing uniforms carrying LG group's logo when they train and play practice games.

The French national team has also set up their training camp at LG group's soccer training center in Gyeonggi Province and recently played against LG's professional soccer team in a practice game.

The collaboration between the Korean group and the French team is part of a contract they signed in which the team will be exhibiting LG's logo for LG's payment of US$2 million in three years.

Samsung Electronics has also signed a sponsorship contract with the Chinese national soccer team's support group, keeping one eye on the world's largest market. Samsung said it clinched the contract on an exclusive basis with about 5,000 Chinese supporters due to come to Korea for the World Cup games.

LG Electronics has signed a contract to sponsor the Russian team.
