Cha Bum-kun Named as World Cup Star Representative

Cha Bum-kun, Korea's football legend will represent the nation as a World Cup star player at the pre-opening ceremony of the soccer gala on May 30. The Korean Football Association announced, Thursday, the former national soccer team head coach will take part in a ceremony on the eve of the World Cup kick-off, featuring ten soccer stars of the past.

Cha was the first Korean to make an impact in Europe during the 1970's and 80's, while he played in the German Bundesliga. Also, the Korea World Cup Organizing Committee for the 2002 FIFA World Cup has invited North Korea's legendary soccer hero Park Doo-ik, who led his national team to the quarterfinals of the 1966 World Cup in England.
