Three Japanese Songs to Be Broadcast Over World Cup

A limited broadcast of songs with Japanese lyrics will be allowed from March 22 to end of July. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) announced Friday that Korea-Japan Cultural Policy Advising Committee meeting decided to permit the broadcast of some of Japanese songs in the official World Cup album during the period. Japanese songs were completely banned from being aired or marketed in the country.

Yu Jin-yong, MCT's Culture Industry Bureau chief, said that three official World Cup songs with Japanese lyrics; "Boom by Anastasia," "Anthem" composed by Greek composer Vangelis, and "Let¡¯s Get Together Now," co-composed by Kim Hyeong-seok and Taiske, are allowed to be aired, but other Japanese songs in the album are still banned from being broadcast.

The temporary ban lift measure until July is only applicable to the three songs, and broadcasting and sale of all other Japanese music is still prohibited. Sony Music released the official World Cup album recorded by Korean and Japanese singers on Friday.
