Cha Out to Impress Father and Coach Against Tunisia

"I have dreamt of playing in the World Cup and will do my best to be included in the start line-up," said Cha Du-ri who in the training camp at the La Manga Hyatt Regency's soccer field in Spain, is doing the double duties of playing soccer and translating head coach Hiddink's Dutch commands to fellow teammates. Cha resembles in appearance and performance his father Cha Beom-geun, a legendary player and former national team head coach.

"It's embarrassing for a striker not to produce a single goal in eight A-matches," says Cha, showing firm determination to score a debut goal in the game with Tunisia, scheduled for Wednesday. Joining the national team in October 2001, Cha exhibited impressive speed, breaking though defense lines, but failed to score a goal, lacking decisiveness. Former head coach Cha advises his son to make a chance for himself in order to grow as a true striker. As the national team is going through a slump at the critical moment with three consecutive defeats, Cha said that he is determined to be the star of the winning match.

Cha also expressed his hope to participate in the 2006 World Cup in Germany with his father as a team coach just like the Maldinis of Italy had done at the time of France World Cup, adding that Germany is a special place for the father and the son. Cha was born in Germany where his father spent his gold years as a striker.
