The 20-year old theme show 'Saturdays with Korean Traditional Performing Arts' will open its 2002 run at 5:00pm from March 2 to December 28 in the National Center for Traditional Performing Arts in Seocho-dong, Seoul. Under the catch phrase, "A Comfortable Weekend of Culture with Korean Music and Dance," the center will present classical court music as well as original and edited versions of traditional folk songs, melodies and dances.
The center has selected 90 works of arts, of which two dancing programs and six court and folk music programs will be performed for 12 weeks each. A tradition exorcism, fan, drum and court dancing, national folk songs and instrumental performances are also expected to be major attractions.
In addition, the center is planning to open its courtyard as a place for families to enjoy quality weekends. Children will be able to enjoy various traditional forms of Korean play, including skipping and top spinning, and there is no entrance fee for them.
For foreign visitors prior to the 2002 World Cup Finals, the center has prepared brochures in Japanese and Chinese as well as in English.
