Chung Ju-yung, Hyundai conglomerate founder and honorary chairman, died on March 21 at Asan Medical Center, itself a Hyundai subsidiary. Founding Hyundai Motor Industrial Company at the age of 31, Hyundai grew as the representative group of Korea, with some 83 subsidiaries, including industry leaders Hyundai Construction, Hyundai Motors and Hyundai Heavy Industry. However, the legendary businessman saw the decline and division of Hyundai in his later years, due to a power struggle and discord among his sons and financial constraints.
