The Minister of National Defense Kim Dong-shin said Friday that he knew there had been exchanges of information on the issue of sending Korean combat troops to an anti-terrorist war at the level of USFK officers. However, there was no official request made by the US government.
At the National Assembly's Budget Committee question and answer session, Kim said he was expecting such a request anytime as US President George W. Bush asked its allies to show their determination to fight against terrorism through action in a recent public speech. He said no such issue was raised at the working-level contacts for the annual Security Conference Meeting scheduled for Nov. 15 in Washington D.C.
Kim also said there has been no change in the concept of viewing North Korea as the potential 'main enemy' of this country.
