North Korea¡¯s foreign ministry spokesperson said Saturday that the country will join two anti-terrorism treaties namely, ¡®The International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism¡¯ and ¡®The International Convention Against the Taking of Hostages,¡¯ on an interview with North's Korean Central TV.
The spokesman said that the North Korea had done its best to eradicate global terrorist activities so far, and it will consistently put its full efforts into combating terrorism.
The International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, which Seoul also signed on October 9, states that signatory countries consider financing and raising funds for terrorism are crimes, will provide identification and financial statements of those charged with such activities, and will freeze and seize funds raised for terrorist activities.
North Korea has now joined seven of the twelve ¡®Conventions Against Terrorism,¡¯ including four previously signed aviation related pacts and ¡®The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Internationally Protected Persons,¡¯ which outlaws attacks on senior government officials and diplomats.
