Terrorist Attacks Hurt Korea's Tourism Industry

Tourist arrivals at Incheon are down amid growing concerns over flying in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Tuesday with the number of inbound tourists totaling 42,200 in September. The figure represents a drop of almost 8.5% year-on-year and the largest monthly fall in six years.

Tourists flying in from the US dropped by 25% and those from Japan fell by 12.5%. On the other hand, the number of outbound Koreans showed a 7% increase over the same period last year. Ministry officials point out, however, that this rate of increase is significantly lower compared to previous years.
