Colleges and Universities are hosting recruiting events for foreign students in China, Vietnam, India and Japan. Schools located in other provinces are especially desperate since they are experiencing serious shortage of students.
Six schools, including Hanyang and Donga universities are participating in the Beijing Study-Abroad Fair on October 20 to 22 to recruit Chinese students, and Shanghai Study-Abroad Fair, held from October 26 to 28, will feature six schools including Wonkwang and Kaya universities. More fairs will be held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from October 11 to 13 with six schools including Sungkyunkwan University; in New Delhi, India on October 16 and 17 with seven schools including as Taekyeung College; and in Kobe, Japan with four participating schools including Sookmyung WomenĄŻs University.
Ten schools; Chonbuk, Taegu, Konyang, Youngsan and Kyunghee Universities, Taegu Health College, Jeju College of Technology, Korea Tourism College, Daewon Science College has already participated in a recruiting event held in Changchun, China from September 23 to 25.
Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Sunmoon University are planning to construct dormitories for foreign students.
The government is also preparing simpler immigration and visa qualifications, and college admission procedure for the foreign students in addition to sponsoring educational programs. Currently 150,000 Koreans are studying abroad while only 6,200 foreigners are being educated in Korea.
