Businesses on Full Alert Over US Attack
Following the US air raid against the Taliban Monday, major Korean business groups wasted no time in launching their already-prepared emergency operation systems. Executives at the groups cancelled their business trips to the Middle East, and businesses that have resident staff in the region began taking concrete steps to repatriate them in case the crisis escalates.

Samsung group held an emergency meeting Monday morning and ordered its subsidiaries to ban their staff situated in the Middle East from traveling and to work out ways for them to evacuate the region overland or sea-borne if the crisis gets serious. Samsung Electronics, the main unit of the group, directed its 13 branches and affiliates in the Middle East to report to the head office on the traffic situation at major ports in the region on real time.

LG group also mobilized its emergency team to cope with the attack on Afghanistan Monday. The group e-mailed guidelines for action in case of emergency to the resident staff of the group¡¯s 67 branches and affiliates throughout the world.

SK group launched an emergency task force in the Middle East, headed by its branch manager in Dubai Monday.

Hyundai Motor group held an emergency meeting, presided over by its chair Chung Mong-koo, Monday morning and decided to take a step toward reinforcing its overseas marketing activities, rather than opting for defensive tactics. The group said the planned business trips to countries not affected by the US attacks will not be cancelled.
