Chinese Modern Dance Legend to Appear in Seoul

¡±I will be surprised if my performance is not sold out. They have always been, world wide,¡± replied Jin Xing, the founder of Chinese modern dance and a Korean descendant, with confidence when asked about her company¡¯s successful staging of ¡°Shanghai Tango¡± at the Towol Theater of Seoul Arts Center on Sunday. Jin will spend six days in Seoul, appearing in talk shows and doing interviews in addition to the performance.

As a transgender, born as male, but undergoing an operation to become a woman, Jin said that she does not care if her shows are made popular because of love for the dance or curiosity on her private life, because she is sure that she can persuade the viewers with dance. Jin claims that she does not take female hormonal injections and not even wear much make-up because as a professional dancer, she needs to take good care of her body.

Jin, who will make a film debut on ¡°Resurrection of the Little Match Seller,¡± directed by Jang Sun-woo, says that she does not need to practice stunt moves because she had trained herself in a military entertainment unit for ten years since the age of nine. Her fourteen-month-old adapted son, Dudu, is the being that bounds her to the earth, says the extraordinary dancer.
