Following a related ministries meeting on the terrorist attacks on the United States, the government announced Friday that it would legislate an anti-terrorist law. In addition it is studying establishing a naval patrol to protect oil import routes and placing armed guards on civilian aircraft to prevent hijacking.
A spokesman said that current guidelines against terrorism were insufficient to counter terrorists and that the government would also establish an Anti Terrorist Center composed of staff from the Ministries of Government Administration and Home Affairs, and Defense, and the National Intelligence Service, under the control of the latter.
It is also looking to expand civil defense training to include terrorist attacks.
