Korean Airlines announced Wednesday that duty-free 18-year-old Chivas Regal would no longer be available on its flights, as boxes of the whisky contain a free pair of nail clippers that could be used as a weapon. In addition other health care products, which contain files, clippers and other metallic or edged articles, including the Henkel range of products will also be removed from flights.
Korean Air said that Chivas would be sold from next month, once the nail clippers were removed, while Asiana, the country¡¯s second air carrier announced it was replacing the promotional gift with a clock.
Since the tragic attack on the United States, all cutlery on KAL flights has been replaced with plastic and steaks have come pre-cut while fruit has also been peeled in advance. Corkscrews for wine bottles are limited and stored in a designated space.
Security officials at Incheon International Airport said that baseball bats, golf clubs, bamboo swords, scissors, knives, hammers and screwdrivers were classified as restricted articles, and so would be placed in aircraft¡¯s hold. They noted that some 300 items were transported this way each day.
