Seoul Pledges Support for US Retaliation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced Sunday that Minister Han Seung-soo will meet with US Secretary of State Colin L. Powell on September 18 in Washington D.C. to discuss cooperative measures with the US following last weekĄ¯s devastating terrorist attack, and issues concerning North Korea. At the meeting, the United Sates is expected to ask South Korea for specific help regarding US retaliation against terrorists and their supporters.

Earlier, Minister Han told Secretary Powell in a telephone call on September 15 that South Korea would fully accept US requests, while Powell expressed thanks for South Korea taking an aggressive stance on the issue alongside America.

According to the Ministry, Han explained that Kim Dae-jung had expressed in a statement that the government will provide every possible support to the US and its citizens.
