Student Foils Pro North Rally at Honam University

Students of Honam University foiled a rally which was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, to commemorate an activist who committed suicide by burning himself in protest, organised by the Federation of Student Councils in Kwang-ju and the Chonam area. The student council of the Honam University said that 200 students were mobilise to make a 150 meter human belt to prevent the rally. Saying that it would not prevent a pure memorial event but would diffuse any rally or meeting which propagates the North Korean ideology. The police also mobilized 360 riot police to prevent students entering a Namchongryon, pro North Korean student organization, meeting, so the meeting's location was changed to Chosun University and held there. This was the first time that a Namchongryon gathering was prevented in this area.

The student council of Honam University said that to have a memorial service every year for Pyo Chong-du, who was not a student due to expulsion, was unjustifiable and it is necessary to rethink whether we follow his idea of saving the country via anti-Americanism.
