Shin Ji-a came second in the women's singles short program of the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, Canada on Wednesday.
At the junior-level competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union, she earned some 71.19 points, beating her previous best of 70.41 points, which she set at the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Latvia in September last year.
Shin is close to winning her second consecutive medal as she won a silver medal at the same event last year, becoming the first Korean figure skater in 16 years to win a medal after figure skating star Kim Yu-na.
Shin is just 0.59 point behind Mao Shimada of Japan, who finished first in the short program with 71.78 points.
Now much attention is being given to her as she competes in the free program, which is slated for Saturday.
